PERSPECTIVE

Good morning readers!

Such a glorious beginning to my day, enjoying the sun’s rays streaming through my window on this chilly morning. I hope your day, wherever you are, is filled with peace and calm.

Today I feel like highlighting the power of perspective! One of my favourite mental spaces to live in, as it truly does reside in our hearts and minds. Perspective is not just about how we see things; rather, HOW we see things is affected by where we focus our attention. Most times, I believe a shift in perspective can turn a challenge into an opportunity or a setback into a lesson. It is like finding a hidden room in a familiar house—suddenly, everything feels new, exciting and full of potential.

Over the years, even when I was very young and unable to pinpoint the magnitude of my thoughts and emotions, I would often find my way back to my heart by heeding a small inner voice that would advise me to "view the situation from a different angle."

I recall when I was about 7 years old in primary school, trying to grasp how 'Bible studies' could rely solely on one book, without clear evidence of its authorship or proof. Asking my teachers these questions was considered disrespectful and argumentative even though I was simply seeking a deeper understanding. Fortunately, at home, my father encouraged me to think critically and explore complex and controversial topics and I am deeply grateful for his support and guidance. He urged me to question things with calmness and I am proud to share this principle with my own children. I believe that personal sovereignty, through questioning, is essential for advancing human consciousness.

It is my position that our perception of the world, our responses, how we view ourselves, and how we see others all comes down to perspective. I encourage you to gently examine any current challenges in your life and channel your energy into imagining a ‘what if’ scenario. Try shifting your perspective to a POSITIVE ‘what if’. Embrace the patience to IMAGINE this optimistic scenario, ideally envisioning your preferred outcome. How can you achieve this shift immediately? Take any worry or stress-inducing thought or feeling, and FLIP IT, to consider the opposite outcome. Say it out loud to amplify its impact!

As you get used to flipping things, start embracing and acting as though the positive outcome has already happened. Before long, you may notice a shift in your life, much like a domino effect, knowing that YOU did that! Approach this process one thought or feeling at a time, taking as much time as you need with each. There is no right or wrong way—only an exciting journey of discovery. Always remember to be kind to yourself. Any misstep, setback, or recurring pattern is simply a matter of perspective. When I have these moments, I express my gratitude for another experience to learn and grow, and leave it at that.

This technique has been incredibly effective for me over the years, and I am often amazed at how life can seem simpler when we shift our perspective. I frequently remind others of this powerful tool to help them tap into their own inner strength. It is difficult to stay in a negative mindset when you redirect your focus to something positive. For example, if you are grappling with a decision, try flipping your thought process. Instead of dwelling on your difficulty in making a decision, shift your focus to feelings of gratitude for having the time to contemplate your choice. One small step that can potentially alter the course of any negative emotion.

Take it even further and when you have flipped a thought or feeling, continue the task and DO something to align with this positivity. For the example about, grab a pen and paper and start writing pros and cons to help with a decision. The point is, one action leads to another and it continues until the right decision is made. This process will undoubtedly unlock your potential and help you realise your options.  The existence of different choices will ignite a spark of excitement about the different possibilities at your fingertips. Cultivating that spark into a flame of knowing that what matters is focusing on your perspective is a truly empowering position to be in.

I will end these written thoughts with one of my favourite quotes, underscoring that this blog reflects MY perspective and personal experiences. It is not intended as advice for each reader, but rather as an opportunity for you to consider the possible joys associated with shifting your own perspective.

 Have a glorious day.

With gratitude,

Paras
